Dr. Vincent Clarence Price was the actor's grandfather. A shrewd businessman and entrepreneur, he started out in patent medicines in his native Troy, NY. Later, he invented baking powder, which made him extremely wealthy and politically influential. Here's an 1876 Michigan newspaper ad touting his early career.
