Animator Richard Williams began his dream
project The Cobbler and the Thief during the mid 1960's. He
worked on it over the years, creating scenes so detailed and
intricate that all other contemporary animation pales in comparison.
Among those providing voices for the film was Vincent Price, who
played the evil ZigZag, advisor to the king. In the meantime,
Williams won an Academy Award for his short adaptation of A
Christmas Carol, as well as for his work on Who Framed
Roger Rabbit. Cobbler was in production until the late
1980's, when the project was taken from the artist by Miramax
Studios, to be 'completed' with second-rate animation, forgettable
songs, replacement voices (except for Vincent, whose work remains),
and ultimately released in 1995 as Arabian Knight. By the
time Miramax/Disney dumped it with little advertising, Vincent Price
had been dead for 2 years.
